Off Beat Tours is owned and operated by us. Kevin and Margaret Dash
of Barrytown on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand.
We specialise in small groups of one to seven. Our standards are very
high and we accompany our customers the whole time on the tour- walks
adventure, travel and meals. Most of our clients travel to the West Coast
over the Alps from Christchurch on the Trans Alpine Train. Why not stay
a few nights and enjoy what we have to offer. There is a huge variety
of accommodation on the West Coast and we use only those offering high
standards on our Off Beat Tours.
The West Coast is a sub tropical rain forest, with podocarp forest,
indigenous and exotic forest with a breathtaking alpine backdrop of Mt
Cook and the Southern Alps. About 85% of the West Coast is Public Conservation
Land. We have farming, forestry, coal and gold mining, fishing and tourism.
It is very scenic with lots of activities and adventures to entertain
you. Many Bush walks and hikes, great for trout fishing and hunting. We
live in a nature paradise, of natural attractions and scenic landscapes.
We are busy in the summer of course but would love to see more of you
in the winter. In the winter we get lovely clear sky, no wind or sandflies.
Very few people travel here in the winter so those who do enjoy an unforgettable
experience with nature at its best. There is nothing so perfect as a cool
crisp winter morning with the sun peeping through the mist. The mountains
and trees are outstanding.
 Your
host is Kevin Dash. Kevin has been a West Coaster all his life and along
with Margaret (me) has 2 grown up children. We live overlooking the sea
on the beautiful Coast Road. Kevin is a naturalist with a broad view of
conservation issues. He has a wide spread knowledge of flora and fauna
from the Alps to the Sea. Photography is a specialty and so is his knowledge
of geology and history. He has been active on the conservation boards
and is a tutor in outdoor pursuits. Kevin is into his 6th year leading
tour parties in Canada, Alaska and the Yukon.
As you can imagine Kevin has excellent people and communication skills.
